3rd September 2023: The Record That Redefined Dominance
Manage episode 504168526 series 3670475
On this day in Formula One history, we travel from the dawn of the World Championship to one of its most dominant modern eras.
At Monza in 2023, Max Verstappen broke Sebastian Vettel’s long-standing record to claim an unprecedented tenth consecutive Grand Prix victory, cementing Red Bull’s place in history and underlining his complete control of the season.
We also pause to consider the complicated legacy of Ferdinand Porsche — a visionary engineer whose innovations shaped pre-war Grand Prix cars and laid foundations for one of motorsport’s most successful marques, while also tying him to some of history’s darkest chapters.
And finally, we rewind to 1950, when Monza hosted the very first Formula One championship decider. With Juan Manuel Fangio leading the standings but faltering once again, it was Giuseppe Farina who triumphed at home, becoming Formula One’s inaugural World Champion.
From Farina’s breakthrough, to Porsche’s influence, to Verstappen’s record streak, this episode shows how Monza has always been the Temple of Speed where history is written.
