Pete vs Anxiety - Teetering on a Tightrope, my bipolar journey-Steve wilson
Manage episode 498009046 series 3666128
In the beginning I was diagnosed as clinically depressed. After 6 years of meds and therapy that didn't help, my psychiatrist changed my diagnosis to bipolar disorder. This was the start of my journey into my acceptance of my condition. Previously I had been raped when I was 9, and attempted to kill my father at age 21. Luckily, before I could harm him, I came to my senses and drove to a mental health facility near my home. I was there for 3 weeks. I had suicidal thoughts previous to my hospitalization, but since then, none. The following years consisted of up and down days which lasted anywhere from a week to a month. Finally, in 2000 I received the first med that helped. Since then I have added 3 more psych meds which created my "cocktail" that got me 90% better. Today I facilitate 3 mental health support groups in Phoenix. I have very few symptoms due to trauma therapy, etc. Since 2023,I have been a guest on 40+ podcasts. I am doing great following a long, rigorous ride.
