When it comes to burnout, there are two things I think that really hold us back. The first is not always being able to tell when we're approaching a burn out. The second is re-integrating yourself back into work once you've taken a few days off from a burn out.
This episode details a recent burnout I had. I was rapidly approaching one and not realizing how close I was, until Monday hit and I woke up completely and totally fried. Sound familiar?
What we talk about constantly in entrepreneur culture is hustle, grind, productivity, and bettering ourselves / our business. What is not often talked about is rest, taking time, and recharging what is so rapidly depleted in the hustle.
Sometimes, the only way to move forward, is to first hit the pause button.
As I am reintegrating myself back into being a productive version of 'me', I am struggling with the battle between: 'Do I really feel better?" and "I can't afford to not feel better."
My battle this morning was, after taking the week off, do I go and Kickbox? Getting up and going was hard. But what would have been even harder would have been letting myself skip it, regretting that decision, feeling lazy, and leading into a pattern of letting myself "off the hook" throughout the rest of the day.
When you're in a season of hustle, turned into a need to rest and recharge, what's next? There is no "ultimate guide to recovering from your crash and burn."
Here are my biggest takeaways from my most recent experience with burnout, I hope they're helpful to you!
First: You are the only one that can predict and prevent your own burnout. While you may have people that love you and care for you, they can't always see everything going on in your current situation. Only you can.
Second: Acknowledge the current season you are in and be ok with doing "good enough" work for right now.
Third: You will get through this season, trust that you will pull yourself out of it. That you will always be able to tread water and keep yourself from drowning.
You're amazing, friend.
