Episode 156 of the Business Bookshelf podcast - Dr Tshilidzi Marwala - author of "Leadership Lessons From Books I Have Read".

Tshilidzi Marwala is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation at the University of Johannesburg. He has published 9 books (one has been translated into Chinese), over 280 refereed papers and holds three international patents. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Systems Science (Taylor and Francis Publishers) and has been a reviewer for more than 40 ISI journals. He has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University, University of California at Berkeley, Wolfson College-University of Cambridge and Nanjing Tech University. He has received more than 45 awards including the Order of Mapungubwe. His writings and opinions have appeared in the New Scientist, The Economist and Time Magazine.

In “Leadership Lessons From Books I Have Read” Tshilidzi adopts the thesis that the source of good leadership is knowledge, and the source of knowledge is experience, which can take many forms – reading widely, listening, and engaging in discussion and debate with other knowledge seekers. If leadership is derived from knowledge and knowledge is derived from experience, the ‘experience’ in this book is from 50 books that Tshilidzi has read, and so the source of knowledge informing leadership is the collective experience of the more than 50 accomplished authors who wrote those books
