Howdy there, Daylight Burners – it’s Matt McKinley back in the saddle. This episode’s been brewing in my mind for a while, and like most of my best ideas, it wanders a bit but (hopefully) ties together pretty damn nicely.

We’re diving deep into the meaning of "Uva Uvam Vivendo Varia Fit" — that strange little Latin phrase you know from Lonesome Dove — and how it ties into life, California, and the way we all change by the company we keep.

From cowboys and feedlot Spanish, to the wild beauty (and sheer dysfunction) of California, to how rural and urban America are drifting further apart — I’m talking it all out, cowboy philosopher style. I also give a heads-up on some exciting things happening with the show: recording new episodes out of the historic HeyDay Inn in Smith Valley, Nevada, and a quick preview of some big interviews and events coming your way.

Whether you're here for cowboy stories, fence post politics, baseball ramblings, or just some quality time burning daylight, you're in the right place.

Highlights include:

  • Breaking down Uva Uvam Vivendo Varia Fit and why bad Latin is part of the charm

  • How living near California has changed my perspective (and why it’s still worth saving)

  • Thoughts on rural vs. urban America, and how history shaped that divide

  • Why Burning Daylight is branching out into new in-person interviews

  • Big news about the HeyDay Inn becoming a new partner of the show

  • A little rant (or two) about expensive gas, Sacramento adventures, and the A’s

Sponsors:
This episode is brought to you by the HeyDay Inn in Smith Valley, Nevada – proud to keep cowboy traditions (and a cold beer) alive.

Call to Action:
Make sure to subscribe to all the new feeds:
→ Burning Daylight Sports
→ Death of Fun
→ Fence Post Politics (coming soon!)

Everything will still be posted here on the main Burning Daylight feed — but if you want more sports, comedy, or ag news in your life, go give those channels a follow too.
