On this episode Scott Johnson talks with a guest who lives close to the newly developing EPIC Center in Texas.

The East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) is currently in the planning stages of developing the "EPIC City" in Josephine, Texas, approximately 40 miles northeast of Plano. This ambitious 402-acre project aims to create a comprehensive, Islam-centric community.

The vision for EPIC City includes over 1,000 residential units, encompassing single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments. At the heart of the development will be a new mosque, intended to serve as a central gathering place for the community. Recognizing the importance of education, plans also feature a K-12 faith-based school and a community college, fostering learning and intellectual growth within the community.

Beyond residential and educational facilities, EPIC City is designed to be a self-sustaining community with commercial shopping areas, providing residents with convenient access to everyday necessities and services. The development also intends to include assisted living facilities for senior residents and various sports facilities, promoting an active and intergenerational lifestyle.

The East Plano Islamic Center emphasizes that EPIC City is designed to be an inclusive community, welcoming people of all backgrounds while maintaining Islamic values at its core. To reserve a lot in the main development, an $80,000 share in Community Capital Partners is required, which will later be credited towards the purchase of a home lot. Separate arrangements are in place for the adjacent EPIC Ranches One and Two developments, offering larger residential lots and upscale townhomes.

The announcement of EPIC City in 2024 generated significant interest, with over 500 lots being reserved quickly. However, the project has also faced scrutiny and investigations from state officials, raising questions about its development and inclusivity. Despite these challenges, the developers are moving forward with the planning process, emphasizing their commitment to creating a vibrant and well-integrated community in Collin and Hunt counties. The development of EPIC City is anticipated to unfold over the next decade.
