Matthey Purkey welcomes Daquane Mays to the Boots on the Ground Podcast. Daquane is an Army veteran based in the Bronx, New York, who has overcome numerous challenges on his path to success. Daquane discusses serving in the Army Infantry, his early obstacles after transitioning to civilian life, serving as the NYC Platoon Leader, and his leadership lessons.
After graduating from high school, Daquane enlisted in the United States Army infantry and deployed to Afghanistan, at one point being injured by an IED blast. The transition back to civilian life was not easy, and he found himself facing homelessness, staying with friends and family members or in shelters. Despite the challenges, he remained determined to succeed, and with the help of his grandfather, he returned to New York City and enrolled at St. John's University, where he continued to pursue his passion for finance and now leads community impact projects in the Bronx and other boroughs of NYC as a Platoon Leader for the Mission Continues. Daquane's story is one of resilience and determination.
