Double Down

There is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like hard drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

you take that hit then you bust & the dealer takes it all,

acts like your friend but is more than willing & able,

to bleed you slow like an I.V. drip,

or a tree bled dry just to get your maple,

syrup,

you’re up,

so you hit,

you bust,

sure you did it somewhat for the money,

but you did it mostly for the rush,

there is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

playing blackjack,

wearing a white hat,

seems like the ball park,

isn’t the only place to get a cracka jacked,

Blackjack?

Blackjack?

More like black magic,

you get 18 you stay she hits 16 & gets 21,

you’re down,

almost everything you brought you’ve almost lost,

& the games have only just begun,

how could she hit 16 & get 21,

how could she hit 16 & get 21,

every time you hit 16 you bust,

what the fck is going on!

It’s getting outta hand but you can’t lose again,

so you go all in on the next round,

you get 16 this time & the dealer gets 18 & stays,

so you hit but of course you bust no way your heart starts to pound,

now you’re spiraling in regret,

shouldn’t have taken that hit,

you thought you would win but no matter the hands,

you actually lost the moment you sat down & laid down your chips,

this casino is a perverse circus,

you were driven up in a limo,

which was paid for by the casino,

you felt like a superhero in your faux pas tuxedo,

feeling like De Niro in casino,

until the dealer took all your money along with your libido,

now you’re feeling as exposed as an emperor with no clothes,

or an impeached president trying to give his last speech in a speedo,

with no where to go,

outside waits no limo,

you lost it all so quickly,

there’s no salvation at the casino,

there is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like hard drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

chasing chasing,

money back money back can’t back down now,

so you double back,

go back in hit up the ATM then go all in & double down,

you sit put in all your chips & hit,

& instantly you get knocked back out,

now you’re all the way down on the ground & down,

no more chips to dip or play with in a delirious bankrupt blackout,

a bankrupt blacked-out blackjack session,

in an action of passive aggressive aggression,

palming cups of intoxicating vodka venom in succession,

the damn dealer hit 21 again that man must be a damn magician,

chasing chasing,

you should really cut your losses,

count your blessings then get to stepping,

leave now while you still have something to walk home with,

but you have no home to go to,

only a lonely hotel room,

& you’d rather face anything other than the deafening silence,

of lonely defeat which is all that awaits for you at that room,

praying to God,

to pull you out of the hole you’ve dug,

but God’s not in the cards tonight no redemption at that table,

you swear you spot Diablo don’t know if it’s the drinks or the drugs,

so you go all in one last time,

doubling down giving your soul up,

cards laid out on the table,

dizzy sick to your stomach,

queasy feeling like you might throw up,

praying that maybe Jesus will show up,

open the Gates of Heaven for you,

pardon your sins & let you go up to Heaven but first come up,

but,

there is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

chasing that money back money back money back,

hoping for that monkey,

smacking the table what the fck is that this is witchcraft,

smacking that table like a strung out junky,

this black magic blackjack will get you bitch slapped,

stung by the yellow jack while dipping for the honey,

Triple Crown double down,

trying to beat the odds stacked against you just for even money,

even money even money,

there’s no such thing as even money,

as Satan sings while you’re busy doubling,

down you’re such a clown but your situation isn’t the least bit funny,

& you want to hit,

surely you do,

so you double down & hit your 11,

hoping you don’t get a 2,

& even then you know your odds are good,

because the dealer is showing a 2 too,

surely she’s got to bust at least you think,

even though they rarely bust when you think they’re about to,

then you take your hit get an 8 that makes 19,

19 isn’t that bad no not at all your ok with a 19 19 is cool,

so you stay & pray,

& now it’s the dealer’s move,

she first flips up her face down card,

this card is a 5,

showing a total of 7 now she draws a third card,

she gets another 2 now we’re at 9,

that’s fine time for the fourth card to be drawn,

she draws it’s a 4 now she’s now at lucky 13,

now’s when you start to get excited it’s high time that she busts,

the whole table is screaming “Monkey, Monkey!”,

the tension so thick,

you could cut it with a knife,

as she slowly draws the fifth card,

the sight of an 7 hits your eyes,

& to your surprise,

14 plus 7 is 20 she gets a 20 my oh my,

20 beats 19,

dealer wins & you lose again,

& all those strangers,

around you that you thought were friends,

disappear,

like magic,

the pain is severe,

you feel sick this is tragic,

it all hits you like a ton of bricks,

you’ve lost it all it’s all over that’s it,

in the end you got fckt,

& ironically it was strangely anti-climatic,

self abusing through choosing your own erratic antics,

is such an oddly traumatic self-sabotage tactic,

which is exactly what black jack is,

black jack is just black magic with,

some drugs & ego mixed in but just a bit,

the real drugs are the cards take that hit,

because this is where you can find all the seven sins,

but not one drop of salvation at all not even a little bit,

there is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

just another hit,

so I can get my fix,

one more & that’s it,

just one more & that’s it,

but it’s not that easy,

see there’s no such thing as easy money,

up down up down up down,

erratic pocketbook topography,

at the tables you’ll find all terrains,

from the highest hills to the lowest valleys,

& the hardest thing to do,

is to walk away while you’re ahead & risk blocking a good rally,

quit while you’re ahead,

because here hope is already dead,

no unicorns here only the dogs of Hell,

& they’re forever hungry always waiting to be fed,

see you can feed your greed here,

but this is not a place to repent,

so go on get out of there,

before all your time & all your money has been spent,

see I told you before & I’ll tell you again,

there is no redemption,

here at the card table,

the dealer deals cards like drugs,

please just give me one more hit just one more to get stable,

you take that hit then you bust & the dealer takes it all,

acts like your friend but is more than willing & able,
