Episode 144- You know the voice — now get to know the journey.
Detroit-born singer, songwriter, and powerhouse performer Terry Dexter first captured hearts with her
soulful 1999 self-titled debut on Warner Bros., featuring the beloved singles “Better Than Me” and
“Strayed Away.” Her unforgettable vocals have also graced duet classics like “Spend My Life With You”
(remix) with Eric Benét, “Remarkable” with Jaheim, and “Lay Me Down” with Will.i.am.
In 2008, Terry returned with Listen under Fontana Records, giving us the empowering and critically
acclaimed singles “Beautiful One” and “I’m Free”, and reminding the world of her depth and evolving
artistry.
Beyond music, Terry’s voice and songwriting has been heard and experienced across TV and film, on
networks and studios such as ABC, NBC, HBO, BET, SONY and more, while her acting roles include
starring opposite Morris Chestnut in Love In The Nick Of Tyme and her signature role in the Emmy-
nominated drama series A House Divided for all five seasons wrapping in 2023.
In 2024, she added another milestone starring in Amazon’s mesmerizing and heartfelt global holiday
campaign, “Midnight Opus.”
After a long hiatus, Dexter reunites with her roots alongside
fellow Detroiter, acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and respected
producer Duke Williams. Together, they launch their debut
release under their newly formed label, Daytwah Sound.
The lead single, Believer, is a soul-wrenching R&B anthem,
infused with Williams' gospel-inspired keys and signature
classic soul textures. It takes listeners on an emotionally
charged, musically fearless journey. At its heart are Dexter’s
raw, commanding vocals, telling a poignant story of redemption,
liberation, and inner strength—found in the one place that
matters most.
With this release, Dexter and Williams honor the rich musical
heritage of Detroit while delivering a fresh, powerful sound that
speaks to the spirit, heart and soul. Out now on all streaming platforms
