Canadian activists are pushing for Alberta to join the USA as the 51st state, driven by economic woes, political alienation, and threats against free speech. The Alberta 51st State Movement seeks a referendum to leave Canada, join the US, and gain free trade. While 90% of Canadians reject this plan, 10% in these provinces back it – exposing a significant distrust that Canadian citizens have of their government leaders.
