In this episode of AAHKS Amplified, Patient and Public Relations Committee members Orry Erez, MD and Arjun Saxena, MD, MBA were joined by Gary Schwartz, MD to discuss medications and how it can affect your surgery. They discussed how important it is to be open and honest with your doctors about any medications you are taking. What you are taking can really affect the outcome of your surgery. Before starting or stopping any medications, you should also speak with your surgeon.

One particular medication that our moderator and his guests spent a great deal of time discussing was the GLP Analogues also known as Ozempic – typically used to attain a desired weight before surgery. What patients may not know is GLP Analogues have an effect on anesthesia. So, again, it’s very important to be very transparent with drug usage to ensure an effective procedure.
