When Chris Stephens lost his brother Mike to suicide in 2017, his world was forever changed. Mike, a Navy veteran and small business owner, had battled alcoholism since middle school and carried heavy burdens after service. Chris received the devastating call while on a family trip, far from home, and suddenly found himself navigating unimaginable grief. Out of that pain, #MilesForMike was born—a running movement and online community dedicated to sharing Mike’s story and raising awareness for veteran mental health. Chris’s path of resilience led him to join Stop Soldier Suicide as a Marketing Coordinator in 2023, where he now fights to ensure no other family has to experience the same loss. In this episode, Chris opens up about: 💙 Growing up side by side with Mike and the bond they shared 💙 The struggles veterans face with transition, addiction, and hidden wounds 💙 The impact of grief and finding strength in unexpected places 💙 How running and storytelling became a way to heal and honor his brother 💙 His upcoming run in the Marine Corps Marathon for the 250th anniversary of the Marines This is more than a story of loss—it’s a story of love, resilience, and carrying forward a legacy with purpose. ⸻ 💙 Support the mission: Donate to the William H. “Bill” Butler Jr. Foundation: 🔗 https://www.8158podcast.com/donate 🌐 Website: 🔗 https://www.8158podcast.com 🎙 Want to be a guest?
