When We Come Up Empty
“They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.” - from John 21:3
Peter and some of the other disciples had spent the entire night fishing. But despite their best efforts and hard work, they came up empty. They hadn’t caught anything.
It sometimes happens to all of us. We do the right things. We work hard. And still we fail to reach our goals or even make much progress toward them. How exhausting! How frustrating!
Despite being tired. Despite being frustrated. The disciples didn’t give up. They were open to suggestions and willing to try some new techniques- in this case fishing from the right side of the boat.
Are we willing to listen? Are we willingly to adjust our approach and try new techniques? Are we willing to work through our failures, fatigue, and frustrations?
If we are, we too will experience a breakthrough almost too big for us to haul in.
