60 Seconds of Hope: What Do We Value?
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” -Luke 12:34
What do we value? What’s important to us? Where is our heart. It’s easy to say we care about someone or something, but do we really? How do we know if we are being sincere or if we’re just going through the motions, putting on a show because we think we’re supposed to?
According to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus says to look at what we treasure. In other words, where do we spend our time and money? Into who and what do we pour our care and compassion? These are the things and people that really matter to us.
We say we care about the poor. We say we care about equity and justice. We say we want children to get a good education. We say we care about the environment. We say we love our friends and family and we love our neighbors.
Do we? Where are we putting our treasure? That’s where our heart is. That’s what we truly value.
