Don’t Be A Scoffer

“Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers,” - Psalm 1:1

If you’re reading or watching this far, chances are you think of yourself as a pretty good person who generally tries to do good and treat people right. You’re not out here trying to follow the advice of the wicked.

So, let’s focus on the last part of Psalm 1, verse 1, the part of not being a scoffer. A scoffer is someone who mocks and ridicules, who holds others in contempt. Instead of trying to encourage and edify others, a scoffer discourages and disdains.

It’s one thing to think critically. It’s another thing to always criticize. It’s one thing to be prudent and cautious. It’s another to be jaded and cynical. Our realism should also be hopeful and optimistic.

Don’t sit in the seat of the scoffer. The world has enough of that already.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is Sixty Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
