In his book The Mother, Sri Aurobindo describesthe Divine Shakti and its action. The executive power of the universalmanifestation resides in the Divine Shakti, the feminine aspect of ourreality. The Divine Mother takes a number of different forms as Shemanifests all of creation. This shakti moves through everything andeveryone as it acts. Some individuals are more closely identified withthis universal power and principle and their very lives act as an embodiment ofthis force. Sri Aurobindo identified Mira Alfassa as such anindividual. She took up the development of the practical implementationof Sri Aurobindo’s vision and was the guiding and founding force behind the SriAurobindo Ashram, the Sri Aurobindo International Center of Education and theexperimental city project called Auroville. Many people came under herinfluence and had experiences of the shakti first hand as it worked in andthrough them to carry out profound changes in human nature as we prepare forthe next phase of the evolution of consciousness, the supramentalmanifestation. The life and work of the Mother of the Sri AurobindoAshram is fascinating and wonderful to reflect upon.
