The Solara was a Visha exploration vessel traveling near the edge of the Percy'd Expans, a region most species avoided because the stars there felt wrong, almost alive. The message came through full of static and fear, unknown contact, not dominion, not conquered, energy readings off the scale, ship is, then, silence. Its captain, Gore Rellen, was known for his sharp mind and calm under fire. Then without warning, the strange ship moved, not with engines or thrusters, but smoothly as if it was sliding through space itself.
