Glenn County Loses Lone ER Hospital
Glenn County is losing its only emergency room. Located about 90 miles north of Sacramento, Glenn Medical Center has operated in Willows for 75 years. It announced that ER and hospital services will close on Oct. 21, after a federal agency removed its “critical access” designation, reducing the Medicare funding it receives. CalMatters Health Reporter Ana Ibarra has been following these developments and joins us with the consequences to this rural agricultural community.CalMatters is a nonprofit newsroom that partners with public media stations across the state.
Sac State Hornet’s Editor-in-Chief
Sacramento State’s student-run newsroom is back in action with the start of the fall semester. For 75 years, The State Hornet has covered campus life, student issues and broader Sacramento stories. This year, the publication has a new editor-in-chief: Delaney Joyce. She first joined the Hornet as arts and entertainment editor, and now leads the team of student journalists as they navigate a charged political climate and budget shortfalls in the CSU system. Joyce joins Insight to talk about her vision for the Hornet and the importance of student journalism.Note: CapRadio's broadcast licenses are owned by Sac State. Inaugural ‘Sacramento Science on Tap’
The popularity of Science Cafes has spread across the Sacramento region in recent years, providing an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in a relaxed environment. The Davis Science Cafe has been a staple at the G Street Wunderbar, and earlier this year the Elk Grove Science Cafe launched at A Seat at the Table Books. Now, a similar event is launching in the capital city called Sacramento Science on Tap, with the first talk happening Sept. 9 at New Helvetia. Vanessa Richardson from California Groundbreakers and Nick Gray from Capital Science Communicators talk about how this event came to be, and the event’s first guest Jared Shaw gives a preview of his topic, “Chemical Tinker Toys.”92 episodes
