Liverpool suffered defeat in the Community Shield as they were beaten on penalties by Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Arne Slot's men failed in the shootout after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium.
And Reds reporter David Lynch believes they can have few complaints over not winning a largely even game.
He highlights defensive concerns as key to that, with Liverpool too easily taken apart on the break.
