Happy 2025 to the many adoring fans of Plugged In, the Guidehouse Insights podcast where we get deep into sustainability topics and how they can be where you least expect.

This month we have a first for Plugged In, a returning guest! We brought Grant Samms back on to talk about his report “Waste Heat Recovery for Data Centers”. Grant is a Research Analyst with Guidehouse Insights focusing on energy use and efficiency, smart city development, and the human/built environment interface. If you haven’t listened to his previous appearance in Episode 3, give it a listen!

We have Grant on to chat about an emerging market with potential for massive benefits: waste heat from data centers. The server rooms for everything you do with a computer, from shop to generate AI images, create a lot of heat. With constant and predictable heat, what can a data center operator do with it? They can heat a building, heat water, and maybe even help with animal farming. With the explosive growth of data centers globally, this waste product might become a major opportunity.

Thank you to Guidehouse for providing us this platform for discussion. To keep up to date on other Guidehouse Insights work, follow our Industry Insights blog on our website: guidehouseinsights.com.
