Learning Series: Dr. Wayne Detmer and Martha Carlough

Dr. Detmer serves as the Chief Clinical Officer of Operations at Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago, Illinois. He completed undergraduate training at Yale University and medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Detmer is board certified in family medicine and licensed in the State of Illinois. He and his wife, Gina, have worked at Lawndale Christian Health Center since 1999. In 2001, Dr. Detmer was promoted to Chief Clinical Officer of Operations. In this capacity, he works to improve access for patients and to ensure efficient clinic operations. Dr. Detmer serves on the boards of St Anthony Hospital and CCHF.

Martha Carlough is a Consultant faculty at TMC Duke Divinity and Staff Physician, at Samaritan Health Center of Durham.

This workshop was presented at the 2024 CCHF Conference. Martha and Wayne used the four-fold movement of the Eucharist as a model for how health care practitioners can choose to occupy our roles in health and healing in a needy world. They explored this both in relation to individual patient encounters and in broader ways where their voices and actions serve to advocate for God’s abundant economy where “there is enough if we share it”.

We hope you will look for opportunities to meet Wayne Detmer, Martha Carlough, and others like them at the next CCHF Conference (CCHFConference.org).
