Hey Nittany Lions, it's Jenny with your Campus Update for October 13 through October 20. Let's get you set for the week—fast. First up—Penn State has parted ways with head football coach James Franklin after a third consecutive Big Ten loss, most recently a 22-21 defeat at home to Northwestern. Athletic director Pat Kraft cited the program’s high standards and the need for new leadership. Associate head coach Terry Smith will serve as interim head coach. Next—senior quarterback Drew Allar will miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to an injury sustained during the final minutes of the team's 21-22 loss to Northwestern. The injury, believed to be to his left leg, occurred as Allar attempted to run for a first down late in the fourth quarter. Redshirt freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer is expected to take over as starting quarterback. Finally—the annual THON 5K is happening this Sunday, October 20, at 11:30 a.m. outside the Bryce Jordan Center. It's one of the largest pre-THON events, featuring a line dance, kids' race, and live music. All proceeds support the fight against pediatric cancer. Tough weekend for Nittany Lions football, falling 22-21 to Northwestern. Senior quarterback Drew Allar went 13-of-20 for 137 yards, connecting with wide receiver Devonte Ross for seven catches totaling 115 yards. Running back Kaytron Allen added 90 rushing yards and a touchdown. Looking ahead, the team faces Michigan State at home this Saturday. The Penn State Thespians are bringing laughs with "Young Frankenstein" at Schwab Auditorium from October 18 to 20. It's a hilarious take on the classic tale. On the food front, Café Laura is hosting "My Big Fat Greek Dinner — A Getaway to the Isles" on October 18. Enjoy a Mediterranean feast prepared by students in the Advanced Food Production and Service Management course. This week in State College, expect a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to low 70s. Notably, Thursday brings plenty of sunshine but also an elevated fire threat due to low humidity and dry brush. Be cautious with outdoor activities that could spark fires. Your move: register for the THON 5K happening this Sunday. It's a great way to support a worthy cause and get some exercise. Sign up now to secure your spot. That's your quick Campus Update.
