Good morning, Buckeyes! Here's your campus news update for Monday, September 22, 2025. President Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. delivered his second State of the University address on September 17, coinciding with Ohio State's 152nd Founder's Day. He announced a $100 million campaign to attract and retain top faculty and researchers, emphasizing the university's commitment to becoming a leader in Artificial Intelligence. The AI Fluency initiative aims to ensure every graduate is proficient in AI, starting with the current first-year class. Additionally, Ohio State plans to hire 100 more AI experts, complementing the existing 300 working in the field. In partnership with Columbus State Community College, Ohio State introduced the Buckeye Bridge program. This initiative guarantees admission to Ohio State for students who complete an associate degree at Columbus State and have a family adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less. The program aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for Ohio residents. Ohio State is adjusting to the implementation of Senate Bill 1, which bans diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in public colleges and universities. The university has centralized guidance and FAQs for compliance, updated its policies to avoid endorsing or opposing controversial beliefs, and prohibited most land acknowledgments in official communications. Faculty retain the freedom to discuss these topics when relevant to coursework. The Buckeyes have climbed to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 college football poll after defeating preseason No. 1 Texas. This marks Ohio State's first time topping the regular-season rankings since 2015. In recruiting news, Angelo Smith, a high school junior safety and younger brother of Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith, has committed to play football at Ohio State. Angelo is recognized as a talented defensive player and is expected to join the secondary. The Ohio State University Airport hosted a free community open house on Friday, September 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees toured the terminal, met aviation professionals, and viewed aircraft displays. This family-friendly event provided insights into the airport's operations and aviation's significance to Ohio. That's all for today's update. Stay safe and Go Buckeyes!
