Selective Silence: Dawkins, CosmicSkeptic, and the Grooming Gangs Scandal
Manage episode 510453977 series 3689727
In this episode of The Grail Standard, I explore what I see as a troubling inconsistency in the atheist commentary world. Years ago, Richard Dawkins presented what I believe was a biased perspective on the Israel-Palestine conflict in The God Delusion, portraying Muslims in a negative light while ignoring the extremism of Israel’s Likud party.
Yet today, when the grooming gangs scandal in the UK could serve as ammunition for his ongoing critique of religion, Dawkins has remained silent. Likewise, Alex O’Connor, known as CosmicSkeptic, has had much to say in his critiques of Christianity — but also nothing to say about the grooming gangs.
This episode isn’t about defending Christianity from criticism. Instead, it’s about pointing out the hypocrisy of selective outrage: when some issues are loudly condemned, while others — perhaps because they don’t fit a preferred narrative — are met with silence.
