The title is intended to be provocative. Of course A.I. is not the bread of life... however you don't have to go far into the web to discover many people that would disagree with you.

As we were walking through the Red-Letter journey that we've been on, we are just leaving the scene where Jesus has fed the 5000. He sends his disciples onward. He dismisses the crowd and the retreats to the mountain. Later that evening, he heads to Capernaum taking the shortest distance, across the water. That's where we encounter that amazing scene where Jesus is walking on water.

The crowd of Israelites who were left behind figured out that Jesus and His disciples are now gone, and they decide to pursue them, which some of them do using the boats that are available. They reach Jesus on the other side and Jesus basically says to them - "You're just here for the bread."

Two things occurred to me. The Israelites back then, those that followed we not looking for breakfast! Their bread was the King they so desperately sought. John 6:15 reveals this. The second thing that hit me is now, in the present day, what bread are we chasing? What are we seeking to feed us, to save us?

As it turns out, I happened to have watched a video on Youtube by a group of very knowledgeable A.I. experts the night before this bible study. The spirit leads us in odd ways sometimes. That video crashed right into this story and that's how this conversation came about. The Bread of Life in the Modern Day (PDF) is where that conversation with A.I. picks up. So much for our traditional rabbit hole! The sources include the actual video that hung in the air until I connected the dots with today's study.
