Back Stage Pass Chapter.9 Discover the X Factor. This is extremely important and I think I’ve said that with every chapter but it’s true nonetheless. Discover the X Factor because once you narrow down your practice area your options really open up, you are no longer inch deep and a mile wide. You may have started out as a general practitioner but I’m going to tell you to narrow that down. The exercise is to write down: 1- Why you went to law school? 2- Why you’re passionate about the law? (Before you got tainted by the business of law and the grind.) 3- Why are you a lawyer? (Answer from the heart.) Narrow down the practice areas you are most interested in, then pick one. Write it all down on paper on as many pages as it takes, so you get the ‘why’ down. Why you do what you do? That will help lead you to your specialized practice area, whatever it is, figure it out. It will be hard to trim away all those other practice areas, to turn away income and narrow it down to one thing. That’s where you get down to the point in the X, then everything else expands out from there. Your hourly rate can go up or your fees can go up, your consult fees can go up, and you start to get real respect in one area of law, hopefully the area you are most passionate about. So, do the exercise. #RockStarLawyer #LawyerGreg
