Highlands Community Charter School Hearing
An embattled charter school for adults based in Sacramento could soon face closure following a devastating state audit released in June. It found ‘Highlands Community Charter and Technical School’ received more than 180 million dollars in K-12 funds that it was not eligible to collect and must now repay. Now the school finds itself at risk of losing its charter with the Twin Rivers Unified school board expected to vote on its future in January. EdSource reporter Diana Lambert joins us to talk about the controversy and what comes next.CA Scraps NextGen 911 System
For years, California officials have been building a modern 911 system to replace outdated infrastructure dating back to the 1970s. But after significant delays the unique regional system was finally switched on last year, and didn’t work. Now the state is scrapping the design and going back to the drawing board, but stakeholders are concerned about transparency and increasing costs. William Melhado is the State Worker Reporter for the Sacramento Bee and breaks down the issues with Next Generation 911, and what California’s next steps could look like.CPUC Vote on Undergrounding Rule
California is prone to wildfires, particularly during major weather events where power lines are affected. One way to combat that is by burying power lines. But the cost is often prohibitively high. California regulators are set to vote on a new rule tomorrow that could govern how utilities make those decisions. Noah Baustin is the California Energy and Environment Reporter for POLITICO and he joins us today to explain what it means.92 episodes
