ב 23 באוגוסט 1942 נתפס והובל יעקב ויירניק, נגר ובנאי, לכיכר השילוחים בגטו ורשה, משם נשלח בקרונות משא למחנה ההשמדה טרבלינקה. ויירניק צורף לקבוצת עבודה של בנאים שבין היתר הופקדה על בנייתם של עשרה תאי גז במחנה. בשניים באוגוסט 1943 פרץ מרד אסירים במסגרתו הצליחו לברוח מן המחנה כמה עשרות אסירים, ויירניק ביניהם. כבר בשנת 1944 כתב ויירניק עדות אודות המחנה …
